Check In On Older Australians

During summer, it’s important to check in with older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable people.

There are many ways that you can help an older relative or friend to avoid isolation due to COVID-19 and heat related illnesses.

• Call or check in with them regularly to make sure they are okay. If alone, frail or bedridden, twice a day is recommended.
• Ensure an emergency contact list is easily available.
• Remind them to stay hydrated and ensure they have access to water.
• Make sure their home has adequate ventilation or airflow to help keep them cool.
• Remind them to avoid direct sun or unnecessary heat exposure wherever possible.
Seek medical assistance immediately if there are any sign of heat related illnesses.
